The Department
There are 12 teachers of Science, this includes six teachers of Biology, four teachers of Chemistry and two teachers of Physics. Additionally, we have two teachers of Psychology and three teachers of Health and Social Care and the T Level (Health) qualification. The team are committed to delivering the highest standard of education and are enthusiastic and passionate about their subject areas. Every team member has a key role to play in developing schemes of work and resources. Within the team we have a Director of subject, Assistant Director of Subject a KS3 Lead, and Lead Teachers for Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Psychology and Health and Social Care.
At Key Stage 3 all students follow the National Curriculum with students receiving 80 minutes per week for Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The amount of time dedicated to all areas is in line with national guidelines and students are taught in class sizes of 26 or less.
At Key Stage 4 students can either study GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy) or GCSE Combined Science (Synergy) following the AQA specification. In addition, they can opt to study AQA GCSE Separate Sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and Pearson Edexcel Level 2 BTEC Health and Social Care.
At Post 16, students study OCR ‘A’ Level Biology, OCR ‘A’ Level Chemistry, OCR ‘A’ Level Physics. ‘A’ Level AQA Psychology, BTEC Applied Science (Extended Certificate) and BTEC Heath and Social care, with a number of candidates studying more than one. These courses are extremely popular among students, and achievement within the subject is excellent.
We are keen to give students a range of experiences and provide visits off site alongside inviting guest, speakers and industrialists into the Academy.
There are 10 designated Science laboratories within the department, along with two preparation rooms. All laboratories are have access to electricity and gas and are fully equipped with a range of practical glassware/equipment. In addition to this the venues have interactive smart boards and the latest technology, ensuring that venues are conducive to outstanding learning. ICT plays a large role in planning and delivery of the curriculum and students can access resources online from home.
We are looking for a passionate teacher of Science who is determined to inspire students with the subject. The successful candidate will work in a highly motivated and dedicated team which is committed to providing excellent learning opportunities for young people.
